Compassionate. Joyful. Truthful.

About me

I am currently an Assistant Professor at Bryn Mawr College’s Graduate School of Social Work and Social Research, where my work centers on improving mental health and well-being for marginalized populations, particularly LGBTQ+ People of Color. My research is focused on creating inclusive mental health services, systems, and policies that address the unique challenges faced by these communities. My current research explores the concept and practice of self-permission and introduces #RadicalPermission as an empowerment tool. This work aims to create self-determined, community-driven interventions that foster connection, self-compassion, self-love, and improved well-being.

With over ten years of experience as a clinical social worker in various settings—including community mental health, substance abuse treatment, veterans' health, and private practice—I bring practical, real-world insights into my teaching and research. At Bryn Mawr, I teach courses on practice, research, and cultural humility, with a particular focus on mental health equity for marginalized populations. I am passionate about cultivating lifelong learners in my students and emphasize the importance of experiential learning and self-mastery in social work practice. Additionally, I consult and provide regular workshops to mental health and healthcare organizations and professionals.

In addition to my academic role, I actively serve my profession through leadership positions, including my current role on the executive council of the American Academy of Psychotherapists. I was also honored to be named a Robert Wood Johnson Foundation Health Policy Research Scholar in 2020. As a publicly engaged scholar, I regularly connect with the community through social media and media appearances, striving to further mental health equity and advocate for all communities. Outside academia, I have recently taken up stand-up comedy as a creative practice.
